Hazleton Community Rallies

While Doyna Yar cut right to the rant below (thanks Doyna), some of the other staff here at HP were doing some around the town investigations to see just how much people in our area are doing to support the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Surprisingly, the community seems to really be rallying to gather aid and money to send down to New Orleans. Tractor trailers have been stationed at several area malls to take donations of all kinds. And radio stations have been calling for aid and support all day Friday.
The biggest contribution to this generosity streak seems to be the race memory of the 1972 Agnes Flood. Many of the twenty-something’s won’t recall that disaster, and a lot of the thirty-something’s around here might just have foggy memories if anything about the deluge that covered our area. Nevertheless, the memory is there, and the DJ’s kept reminding us all that we know what a thing like (albeit not on the scale of New Orleans) a weather disaster is like.
So it is a good thing to see donation centers and drop off points popping up around the area, even the geriatric pitched in! As Doyna addressed in HIS rant, there’s NO telling what those on top of the shit heap that is Hazleton are doing, so let’s all remind the giant carpetbaggers of Hazleton to pitch in some of their ill gotten gains for a good cause along with the rest of us!
